The Belly Dance Superstars in the UK – Raqs Britannia 2008, Blackpool, UK

On the weekend of 13th – 15th June 2008, the Belly Dance Superstars will be back in the UK. This bellydancing event is called Raqs Britannia and it will be held in Blackpool.
The event will feature belly dance shows, a souk, buffets and a lot of dance workshops (more than seventy). Among the numerous bellydancers who will run workshops, there will be:

• Suhaila Salimpour, who will teach her famous drills for belly dancers.
• Morocco, who has been belly dancing for over 30 years in the USA and wrote interesting articles on her trips in the Middle East, such as the one on a child birth ritual in a Bedouin tribe.
• Dancers from the Belly Dance Superstars troupe, such as Sharon Kihara, Sonia or Petite Jamilla.
• British belly dancers, such as Maria DeSilva and Kay Taylor (who was my belly dance teacher in Newcastle upon Tyne and is a very good and thorough teacher)

There will be workshops suited for every level, various styles of belly dance such as tribal, Egyptian or cabaret and some belly dance props lessons, such as zills and veils.

I have seen the Belly Dance Superstars once, a few years ago in Newcastle upon Tyne and I thought they were very good. I also attended a workshop with Sharon Kihara, whom I thought was a lovely teacher and very enthusiastic. Learn more about the Belly Dance Superstars.
