The First International Belly Dance Congress – part 3: belly dance workshops with Heather Burby and Shafeek Ibrahim

(Part 3: Belly Dance workshops with Heather Burby and Shafeek Ibrahim)

Heather Burby is an English bellydancer and belly dance teacher based in London. Before the International Belly Dance Congress I had never heard about her, but as I was told that she is a great teacher I decided to attend one of her belly dance workshops. The workshop was about dancers’ footwork and patterning and it lasted two hours. I absolutely loved Heather’s workshop. Not only because I found the content very useful (it is always good, even for a belly dancer, to have some knowledge of basic steps common to many Belly Dance Congresstypes of dance). I really liked Heather Burby’s teaching style and clarity and I was very impressed by her energy and great sense of humour.

On Sunday morning I started the day with a highly energetic Caribbean/African bellydance workshop, run by Shafeek Ibrahim. The workshop was basic in terms of technique and choreography, but it was great fun. I really liked the music and Shafeek’s attitude was of somebody who was having a great fun himself teaching, which made us all feel positive.
