End of term belly dance course performances

When I was living and studying belly dance in Barcelona, I noticed that almost every belly dance teacher there organised end of term dance performances. I myself took part to a couple of performances that took place in proper theatres, as I was attending more than one course.

I really enjoyed performing at the end of the course, and that made me wonder if it is a good idea organising regular belly dance performances at the end of every course. I realise that performing at the end of the course is not everybody’s cup of tea, but there are several advantages to it. Some advantages of organising regular performances for your belly dance students, at the end of every term, include:
  • Performing gives a sense of purpose to what students are learning
Dancing wit their dance mates increases the feeling of cohesion among the belly dancers’ group.
  • It is easier to learn and remember belly dance movements and techniques, if they are aimed at a final performance and regularly rehearsed.
  • Performing at the end of each term gives the dancers more confidence.
  • Taking part to a belly dance performance with other dancers is fun, even if it can make you nervous.
  • End of term belly dance performances give an incentive to perform also to those people who would like to perform, but would not do it if on their own.
