Belly Dance and age. Fitness for everyone! (26th Nov. 06)

When thinking about taking up belly dance and dancing, a common question is about whether or not you are the right or wrong age to join a belly dance class or group. The classes I have seen actually involve people of every age, ranging from about nineteen through to ladies in their sixties. Just as shape doesn't matter, neither does age. The beauty of belly dance normally there are only women present and woman of all shapes, sizes, ethnicity and ages seem to bond together and get great enjoyment from the classes.

Belly dancing can be a great low-impact workout which also improves your self-confidence, balance and strength. Some girls at the age of twenty might feel they are too young. This is not the case because everyone involved with belly dance generally seems to be really welcoming and friendly. Similarly, do not be worried if you feel to old (unless of course your doctor has warned you not to exercise too much i.e. if you have heart problems etc). Belly dance really is for people of all ages.
